In honour and memory of Prof. Dimitrios Morikis

Dimitrios Morikis, UC Riverside professor and founding faculty member of the Department of Bioengineering, passed away May 27, 2019. Morikis is well known for his work in biophysics, with focus on immunophysics and engineering. He used physics and engineering approaches to understand molecular mechanisms of immunology, develop disease models, and design new drugs and molecular sensors for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
Prof. Morikis has been a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). He has been Editor in Chief of BMC Biophysics and an F1000 evaluator.
Prof. Morikis received several recognition for his work in the broad field of Biophysics, highlighted by the Biophysical Society in one of the prestigious profiles of the Society. Read more.
Professor Morikis was a caring teacher and devoted mentor. To keep his legacy alive, we dedicate the SoCal TheoChem 5 symposium to Dimitrios. We hope this will inspire young scientists, students and postdocs in the field.
